Stage 1: Tinnitus, Hyperacusis & Misophonia
From 22 to 24 March 2027, Dr. Hashir Aazh (UK) and Prof. Dr. B. Vinck (ON‑GEHOORD) jointly deliver Stage 1 of the CBT-Hear Certificate Programme.
Over two and a half intensive days you will acquire an evidence‑based, multidisciplinary approach to tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia, with immediate translation to clinical practice.
The Masterclass is delivered entirely in English.
Stage 1 of the CBT-Hear Certified programme provides a comprehensive introduction to the cognitive-behavioural foundations of tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia care. This three-day in-person masterclass, held in GHENT from 22-24 March 2027, is designed for audiologists, hearing therapists, and related professionals who wish to develop confidence in applying CBT principles to hearing-related distress.
The course is combining structured teaching with case-based discussions to connect theory and practice. Participants will learn key concepts in patient education, counselling, and psycho-audiological assessment, and explore practical CBT approaches for managing tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia.
The 18-hour CPD programme covers five modules:
- Patient Education and Counselling in Auditory Disorders
- Somatic and Holistic Interventions
- Introduction to CBT for Tinnitus, Hyperacusis, and Misophonia
- Psycho-Audiological Assessment
- Practical Concepts of CBT for Tinnitus, Hyperacusis, and Misophonia
There are no clinical requirements for this stage, and no prior experience with tinnitus, hyperacusis, or misophonia is necessary. The course is open to those with a BSc, MSc, or Doctorate (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
On completion, participants will receive Stage 1 Certification: CBT-Hear Certified. This stage also provides an excellent foundation for those who wish to progress to Stage 2 – CBT-Hear Certified Practitioner.

Day 1 – Foundations & assessment:
Diagnostic framework, psychoeducation, clinical reasoning, case introduction
Day 2 – Interventions & skills:
CBT techniques, behavioural and auditory interventions, practice with scripts/role‑play
Day 3 (half day) – Integration & case work:
Treatment planning, interdisciplinary coordination, consultation skills, case discussion & feedback

Learning Outcomes
- Explain the core mechanisms of tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia to patients (psychoeducation);
- Conduct a structured intake and differential assessment (including risk screening and referral criteria);
- Develop a case formulation and define treatment goals;
- Apply CBT skills (e.g., cognitive restructuring, attention and coping strategies, graded exposure where appropriate);
- Use sound and environmental interventions in an integrated, person‑centred way;
- Work within interdisciplinary care pathways, knowing whom to involve and when.

They connect their clinical expertise to the CBT-Hear framework and translate it into concrete techniques, case work and practical exercises—showing how a multidisciplinary approach enhances outcomes in tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia.
